Create Pillows Using A Shower Curtain and Tablecloth
Continuing with the How I Got My Home Ready To Sell Series, I thought I would share with you how I spruced up my exterior.
With the list of items to complete, sometimes the “extras” can be overlooked.
An extra such as pillows for outdoor seating areas.
The pillows create a comfortable feeling for a visitor and
add extra color where it is needed most.
Hopefully future buyers will envision themselves sitting with their favorite beverage
while enjoying the comfort of the outdoors.
With that said,
I went on the hunt for exterior pillows.
The problem?
Most pillows are over $20.00 a piece.
I needed to keep costs down and wanted a certain look.
That’s when I had the idea to create pillows using a shower curtain and tablecloth.
Fabric is expensive and I needed to make at least 6 pillows.
I stumbled upon a black and white shower curtain at TJMaxx
and a tablecloth on clearance at Target.
Yes!
Both for the price of one pillow at retail stores.
Awhile back I found some outdated pillows for $3.00 at a furniture store.
I picked them up knowing I would use them for a future project.
That time is now!
The body of the pillow was 18″.
I cut two 18 1/2″ squares for each pillow to allow for a 1/4″ seam.
Look at all of this fabric…
I was so happy when I saw how much fabric I had to work with!
Putting right sides together I stitched up the sides and left an opening for stuffing.
I then pulled the right sides out through the opening
creating an empty pillow shell.
Cutting through the old pillows and pulling out the stuffing was quite gratifying.
Stuffing the pillows and seeing them come to life was even more satisfying.
Once the pillow was stuffed, I sewed up the hole and had several pillows in no time.
Now my exterior has color,
is comfortable and inviting,
and was completed at a fraction of the cost.
Now, when future homeowners visit,
they may want to sit down and stay awhile…
If you are planning to put your home on the market, don’t forget the “extras” that
create a certain look and feeling to an exterior space.
If you aren’t selling,
look outside the box for fabrics to create amazing pillows inside and out.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
