DIY Sideboard

| |

It is quiet here tonight.
My kids are at a friend’s watching an outdoor movie
on a screen built by our neighbor.
How cool is that?
Maybe someday I will get a DIY tutorial on that for you.
So as I sit here alone with my dog, Ally, I thought I would share
a sideboard that I recently did.
It is currently at The Boneyard,
but I am tempted to go and put it in my sunroom…
it is perfect for a flat screen TV.
Here is what really drew me to this piece when I found it.

Flowers, I love them!
 I can’t help it!
They say “happy” to me.
Corny, I know, but it is the truth.  I like flowers that are subtle and beautiful.
This is a Thomasville piece.  The previous owner said when he purchased it, there was a newspaper still in it from when Martin Luther King was alive.
That can tell us a little about how old the piece is.
Let me tell you, this is all wood, and super HEAVY!
Here is what it looked like when I purchased it.

The lines are beautiful and I knew it would be gorgeous painted.
I wanted to stick with a white on this piece.
I chose a white with a hint of grey in it.
It needed to be sanded, de-glossed, primed,
and it took several coats of paint.
A Sherwin Williams latex paint was used.
I will have to post about the color in another post
as I do not have the name in front of me
and I am in my cozy chaise lounge,
in a quiet house,
unable to move my body.
 Ha!
Kidding aside, I will let you know…
After painting, I lightly sanded and distressed all of the details.
Then I chose to protect it with a coat of Annie Sloan clear wax.
This is the finished piece…
Unique Hardware…
Great storage drawers…
(I chose not to paint the inside drawers and shelves).
Flowers…
Gorgeous lines…
 Enjoy!

  1. Angie- That is one of the prettiest pieces I have seen in a while. I love the lines of it. The old Thomasville furniture was really heavy and well made. It turned out gorgeous! Enjoy the peace and quiet! xo Diana

    1. Thanks, Kathy! I know… I seriously think I might go and get it out of the store. It is perfect for a flat screen, with so much storage and room for all of the extra equipment that we must have with our TV’s.

  2. Wow! This sideboard is absolutely gorgeous! You did such a beautiful job on it, Angie. I love all the details in the design.

I really enjoyed meeting you at Haven. (I still feel like I’ve known you from somewhere before.) Let’s meet for lunch someday. The blogging world can be pretty close so I’m sure I’ll meet you again sometime.

    Have a wonderful day!
